Meet Our Speakers! by Jessica Barker With this year’s International Perspectives Conference a little under three weeks away, the time has come to introduce another one of our speakers! This week, we are happy to introduce Selina Leem! Selina is an islander from the Republic of the Marshall Islands. She graduated from the UWC Robert Bosch College in Freiburg, Germany. Before moving to Germany for her education, Selina spent much of her life in her home, Majuro, which is the capital of the Marshall Islands. Growing up, her grandfather told her stories about how climate change would soon cause her island to flood. Later on, while in Germany, Selina took on the role of becoming an advocate for the fight against climate change in her country. She was the youngest delegate at the 2015 COP21 in Paris, where she managed to bring a wider awareness to the effects of climate change on her islands. She currently works at the United World Colleges Changshu, China as an International Educator Intern. If you would like to learn more about Selina and the wonderful work she is doing, you can watch this informative video: Selina Leem |This is our land | Marshall IslandThe people who call the low lying Marshall Islands home see the impacts of climate change at their front door: more intense storms, higher tides, and surging water … Selina will be speaking on Friday October 5th at 7:30 pm!
